Calvert Vaux's 1862 cast-iron bridge over The Lake — the most-photographed bridge in Central Park. Just south, Bethesda Fountain's "Angel of the Waters" (1873) was the first major NYC public art commission given to a woman, sculptor Emma Stebbins.

06

A freight line, reborn as a park.

Built 1934 to lift freight trains off the deadly 10th Avenue. Last train ran in 1980 carrying frozen turkeys. Saved from demolition in 1999, reopened as a 1.45-mile elevated park in 2009. Eight million visitors a year.

One honest note: bikes aren't allowed on the High Line itself. Lock up at any entrance, walk it, ride the Hudson River Greenway back.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

The most common things we get asked at the counter. Anything else? Just call or email us.

Where to rent a bike in Central Park?
Astra Bike Rentals is located at 873 7th Avenue, between 55th & 56th streets — a 4-minute walk from the Central Park south entrance. We're the most convenient bike rental near Central Park, with hourly and daily rentals available daily 8 AM to 11 PM.
Can you bike in Central Park?
Yes — Central Park is one of the most bike-friendly parks in the world. The famous Central Park Loop is 6.1 miles of dedicated bike path with no cars (closed to vehicles year-round). You can ride clockwise (the official direction) past the Reservoir, Bow Bridge, Sheep Meadow, and Strawberry Fields.
Are e-bikes allowed in Central Park?
Yes, Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are allowed on Central Park bike paths. Our Velotric Discover e-bikes are fully compliant — they pedal-assist up to 20 mph in the park. Just keep a safe speed and watch for pedestrians and runners.
How long is the Central Park bike loop?
The full Central Park Loop is 6.1 miles (9.8 km) and takes about 45-60 minutes at a relaxed pace, or 30-40 minutes on an e-bike. There are shorter inner loops too: the 5.2-mile main loop and the 1.5-mile lower loop.
How much does it cost to rent a bike in Central Park?
Our pricing is honest and hourly: classic Trek bikes start at $18/hour or $45 all day. E-bikes are $25/hour or $80 all day. E-scooters $25/hour. Kids' bikes $14/hour. Tandems $36/hour. Helmet, lock, and lights always included.
What's the best bike to rent for Central Park?
For the full 6.1-mile loop, our Velotric Discover e-bike ($25/hr) is the most popular — pedal-assist makes the rolling hills effortless. For casual short rides, a classic Trek bike ($18/hr) is perfect. Families typically book the tandem or a combo of adult + kids' bikes.
Do you offer guided Central Park bike tours?
We focus on self-guided rentals so you ride at your own pace — but we provide a free Central Park map with all the best photo spots (Bow Bridge, Bethesda Terrace, Belvedere Castle, the Mall) marked so you don't miss anything.
How do I book a rental?
Booking is easy online or by calling, texting, or WhatsApp at +1 917 838 9824. Walk-ins welcome too — we keep most of the fleet available for same-day rentals.
Are helmets included?
Yes — helmets are free with every rental. We also include a heavy-duty U-lock and front/rear lights at no extra cost. Required for kids under 14.
What are your hours?
We're open daily from 8 AM to 11 PM, year-round including weekends and holidays. Walk-ins welcome.
Can I rent for multiple days?
Yes — multi-day rentals available at discounted rates. Just ask when booking by phone, text, or WhatsApp +1 917 838 9824.
